Christmas Bells have long been a part of the very core of this celebration. “Jingle bells Jingle bells Jingle all the way…” is a carol that every kid in every part of the world would know of and could hum along. This tells us how ingrained the association of bells with Christmas is in our minds even as we are being slowly brought up. Christmas bells allow you to express the happiness and the excitement; they allow you to rejoice the holiday season and the birth of our Savior.

The History of Christmas bells shows us very interesting ways in which people used these bells. The historical insight on bells tells us that they were used to scare away evil spirits. Everyone could easily buy them or make them and were simply used as a noise making device.

According to people in those days when winter began, evil spirits would do harm to them. So during those winter nights they arranged ceremonies where they used these bells in order to save them from the harm of evil spirits that they feared so much.

This tradition of just using noise making devices on ceremonies then penetrated into the celebrations of Christmas. A Christmas bell was not used to scare evil spirits rather the noise was to symbolize that people were happy and having fun.

Also since most churches had a bell in many villages in those days whenever they were celebrating something important they would express their happiness by ringing the bell. Since Christmas marks the birth of Christ, it is indeed an auspicious occasion and the bell ringing tradition was made a part of its celebration.

The saying “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings” was a very popular saying that kids over a hundred years back knew of. An angel is what every little girl is fascinated with and the fact that every time they ring a bell, that angel that the kids used to idolize would get his wings was very fascinating for them.
