Christmas Bells have long been a part of the very core of this celebration. “Jingle bells Jingle bells Jingle all the way…” is a carol that every kid in every part of the world would know of and could hum along. According to people in those days when winter began, evil spirits would do harm to them. So during those winter nights they arranged ceremonies where they used these bells in order to save them from the harm of evil spirits that they feared so much.
This tradition of just using noise making devices on ceremonies then penetrated into the celebrations of Christmas. A Christmas bell was not used to scare evil spirits rather the noise was to symbolize that people were happy and having fun.
Also since most churches had a bell in many villages in those days whenever they were celebrating something important they would express their happiness by ringing the bell. Since Christmas marks the birth of Christ, it is indeed an auspicious occasion and the bell ringing tradition was made a part of its celebration.
